UNDERSTANDING ADVERSE CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCES

WHY ARE CHILDREN REMOVED FROM THEIR HOMES?

Foster children typically enter the foster care system as a result of severe abuse and trauma within their homes. Neglect ranks as the primary reason for their removal, closely followed by parental substance abuse.

This displacement engenders a complex array of emotional, social, and academic challenges. These children commonly grapple with feelings of grief, guilt, anger, sadness, loneliness, and anxiety, alongside struggles with low self-esteem and various mental and physical health issues. Addressing these multifaceted challenges with compassion and support is vital to their healing and development.
